  • Pentedrone  is a substituted cathinone that is structurally similar to methcathinone , a psychoactive stimulant that is a controlled substance in the United States and other countries. 4-methyl Pentedrone is an analog of pentedrone that features a methyl group added at the 4 position of the phenyl ring. The physiological and toxicological properties of this compound are not known. This product is intended for forensic and research applications.

4-mpd with an IUPAC name of 2-(ethylamino)-1-(p-tolyl)pentan-1-one and a chemical formula of C14H21NO with an exact mass of 219.16 and a molecular weight of 219.32 is a new research chemical. Since the chemical is so new on the market.

4-MPD, which goes by the names "Methylpentedrone" and "4-Methyl-α-methylamino-valerophenone", is a designer drug compound of the cathinone class.
It has the systematic and formal IUPAC name 1-(4-Methylphenyl)-2-methylamino-pentan-1-one, a molar mass of 205.3 grams and an empirical formula C13H19NO.
4-MPD is an analogue of the cathinone pentedrone. 4-MPD features the addition of a methyl group to the para position of the aryl ring. It may also be described as a higher homologue of 4-methylbuphedrone and 4-methylmethcathinone (mephedrone).
The substituted cathinone class of compounds can be accurately called the beta-keto amphetamines. Cathinone itself is the primary psychoactive compound which can be extracted from the fresh leaves of Catha edulis otherwise known as Khat.
The difference in a cathinone and an amphetamine is small. Cathinones differ only by the presence of a ketone at the beta carbon.
The basic structure of the cathinone is a phenethylamine backbone with an alkyl substituent at the alpha carbon and a ketone at the beta carbon. This basic structure is modified in a number of predictable ways which are substitution on the aromatic ring, alkylation of the nitrogen or inclusion of the nitrogen atom in a ring structure and finally variation of the alkyl substituent at the alpha carbon.
One or more of these substitutions produces a unique cathinone. Hundreds have in fact been produced in the last decade in an ongoing attempt to evade the drug legislation in countries that do not practice legislation tackling all analogues or homologues. The cathinones are nearly all N-alkylated and quite a lot have ring substitutions.
Methylpentedrone specifically has a methyl substituent at the para position on the aryl ring, a methyl alkylation at the nitrogen and a propyl alkyl substituent at the alpha carbon.
Use of cathinones although new in some parts of the world has a lengthy history. In the Middle East Khat has a long recorded history of use over a few hundred years.  In the Soviet Union methcathinone was prescribed as an antidepressant in the 1930s and was used recreationally in the 1970s and 1980s. Methcathinone was also used in the USA in the 1990s. Six new synthetic cathinones were reported in Germany from 1997 to 2004.
4 MMC or mephedrone became widely in use in the European Union and particularly in the UK in and around 2009.
Cathinones like 4-MPD act as stimulants at the central nervous system. The stimulatory properties of the cathinones are often comparatively weaker than their amphetamine congeners likely due to the presence of the polar beta-keto group. This makes the cathinones slower and less likely to cross the lipophilic blood brain barrier and thus the effects are less pronounced than amphetamines.
Studies in rats show cathinones like 4-MPD bind to monoamine transporters to promote the release of and inhibit ruptake of monoamine neurotransmitters.
4-MPD is not for human or animal consumption.
Tentative and unverifiable online reports claim this compound is similar in its stimulatory effects to pentedrone but potentially less potent.
